Steckly Slides to win in A&W 300

The Nascar Canadian Tire Series rolled into Barrie Speedway on June 28 for its first appearance of 08. Twenty one drivers set out to compete in the A&W 300 and it was a familiar face to the Simcoe Country faithful that took home the top prize with Milverton's #22 Scott Steckly coming home victorious in his Erb Transport/AW Millwrights Dodge.

Steckly, the current point leader ironically enough captured his first ever series win under the former CASCAR banner in May of 06 at this very tight and tricky tri oval. It would be #4 Don Thomson Jr. in the familiar Home Hardware Chevy that would qualify on the pole however, setting a new track record with a clocking of 13.903, with Steckly (13.964) also eclipsing the former track record of 13.969 sec. set by #9 Mark Dilley in July of last year. The race would get off to a blistering start, with Steckly charging to the lead from the outside pole, with #27 Andrew Ranger, #02 Kerry Micks ...

Barrie Speedway welcomes local media to try the speedway Driving Experience

The Barrie Speedway invited the local media out to the track Wednesday morning to try their luck behind the wheel of a Nascar Thunder Car.

The Barrie Speedway Driving Experience acts as a great corporate team-building event and offers fans an up close and personal perspective. So how did representatives of the Barrie media do when given their opportunity behind the wheel? Well let’s just say they were all very eager to return to their friendly positions in front of the microphone, on the airwaves, and at their desk, as oppose to at the helm of a 335 horsepower stock car ...

Rogers television network to televise weekly races at Barrie Speedway

Barrie Speedway is pleased announce a new television deal with Rogers Television Network.

“We’re pleased to be able to announce that we have signed a new television broadcast agreement with Rogers Television Network to televise all of the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races at Barrie Speedway this season. We’re also very excited to have Centennial Dodge Chrysler Jeep and G.D. Coates Suzuki as a major sponsor of the show. Gord Coates has contributed so much to the Speedway over the years and we’re honoured that he is supporting the Speedway yet again with this sponsorship. This is of great value to all of the sponsors, advertisers, drivers, owners and crews who race at Barrie Speedway every Saturday Night”, states Barrie Speedway’s Jim Payetta. “And it adds a whole new level to the racing excitement at Barrie Speedway for our fans”, added Payetta.

The agreement will see Rogers Television Network shoot the races at Barrie Speedway every Saturday night, then edit the night down to a two hour show that will air in prime time on Wednesday Nights, Friday Nights and Sunday afternoons on a number of Rogers Television networks across southern Ontario.

This absolutely stunning shot of Barrie Speedway was taken during the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event on September 8th, 2007.

Taken at dusk, the shot shows the Canadian Series drivers being led by the pace car down the front straightaway.

What really takes your breath away however is the absolute sea of cars, campers and haulers. It's amazing how far the track has come in just a few shorts years!
