return to rules main page ...2008 Handicapping & Scoring

First Night
- Every driver pulls a number for starting position in heats.
- Cars will run 2 heats with the combined finish determining starting position in the feature.
- Top points car overall out of the heats will pull number between 1 and 8 to determine front eight spots for the feature. (Invitational format)
- The number pulled at the beginning of the night will break any ties.

Second Night
- Handicap determined from last weeks racing, starts tonight. Drivers that were not here the first week will start scratch in all heat races and feature. For the first four (4) weeks it only takes one week starting scratch to earn a handicap. Starting with the fifth week, it takes two (2) weeks to earn handicap.
- If a driver happens to miss one night during a full season, he will not be penalized in his handicap.
- If driving duties are split, each driver will have their own handicap.
- Any car that misses a night after his or hers one night allowance is handicapped as if it won all races the week missed. If the car shows up with a second registered driver, the first driver’s handicap is not penalized for that night. Neither driver will be penalized if the car has a perfect attendance. If the car misses a night, the driver from the last night raced will be penalized.
- Any car that is found illegal and disqualified for the night is handicapped as if it won all races for that night.
- Handicap is based on three (3) week revolving average. Night four is on average from nights one and two and three. Night five is on average from nights two, three and four and so on. Depending on what night is your first night depends on your revolving average, but it is on a three week cycle.
- Cars need to be checked in 3/4 of an hour prior to race time to pull numbers for starting position in heats. If car arrives late, it is scratch for both heat races.

RACES – BARRIE LATE MODEL DIVISION
- Each car runs two heats, the second one in reverse starting position from the first.
- There are no consi’s unless there is more than 24 cars at the beginning of the night.
- Points go back nine spots in each heat race. Any tie in points is broken by the handicap going into that race night with the higher handicap getting the position.
- If there are 24-22 cars at the start of the night, the highest finishing nine cars out of each set of heats will start the feature by their handicap (18 cars.) Any cars that did not finish in the top nine will start behind the qualified 18 cars by their heat finishing positions that night to fill out the feature. If there are 24 cars or less, there will be no consi. If there are more than 24 cars, the non-qualified cars will run a consi, and the finish of that consi is how they will line up behind the qualified 18 cars to fill out the field. If the car count is 21-19 at the beginning of the night then the highest finishing eight cars out of each set of heats will start the feature by their handicap (16 cars). Remaining cars will start behind the qualified 16 cars by their heat finishing position.
If the car count is 18-17 = 7 cars out of each set of heats (14 cars) by handicap. If the car count is 16 = 6 cars out of each set of heats (12 cars minimum) by handicap.

* Handicap will be calculated based on feature finishes only.

RACES – THUNDER DIVISION
- Each car runs two heats, the second one in reverse starting position from the first.
- There are no consi’s unless there is more than 24 cars at the beginning of the night.
- Points go back nine spots in each heat race. Any tie in points is broken by the handicap going into that race night with the higher handicap getting the position.
- The highest finishing nine cars out of each set of heats will start the feature by their handicap. (18 cars.) Any cars that did not finish in the top nine will start behind the qualified 18 cars by their heat finishing positions that night to fill out the feature. If
there are 24 cars or less, there will be no consi. If there are more than 24 cars, the non-qualified cars will run a consi, and the finish of that consi is how they will line up behind the qualified 18 cars to fill out the field.

RACES – PURE STOCK 4 DIVISION
- Each car runs two heats, the second one in reverse starting position from the first heat.
- Depending on car counts, there could be three sets of each.
- Points go back nine spots in each heat race. Any tie in points is broken by the handicap going into that race night with higher handicap getting the position.
- The highest finishing six cars (presuming three sets of heats) will start the feature by their handicap. (18 cars.) The remaining cars will run a B Feature, which will be ten laps plus one lap for each additional car over ten to a maximum of twenty laps. The top eight cars will transfer over to the remaining spots (19-26) in the feature.

ALL REGISTERED DRIVERS WILL RECEIVE 40 POINTS FOR SHOW UP. IF YOU SHOULD HAPPEN TO BLOW UP OR WRECK DURING WARM UPS OR IN HEAT RACES AND CANNOT MAKE THE FEATURE, YOU WILL RECEIVE THESE POINTS. IF THERE ARE OVER 24 CARS IN THE BARRIE LATE MODEL AND THUNDER DIVISION, THE CARS THAT DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE FEATURE RACE WILL RECEIVE 25 POINTS.

MISCELLANEOUS HANDICAPPING/SCORING PROCEDURES
All cars must come out in the heat they are called for. If you miss heat one, and are supposed to be in heats one and three, you may not come out in heats 2 and 4.

Starting formation in both heats and features for the first lap will be double file.

Restarts after the first lap will be with the first three lead lap positions starting in single file and the remainder of the field in double file behind them. In the event of repeated cautions trying to restart the field the race director may at his discretion restart the entire field in single file formation.

Cars that jump the green flag on a restart, will be penalized two spots per position (discretion left up to the starter.)

If there is a restart on lap one in the heats or consi, all cars deemed to be involved go to the back on the restart.

If there is a restart in the first lap of the feature, it is a complete restart and all cars get their starting positions back if they are able to continue without pitting. If pitstop is required, that car must relinquish his starting position and start at the back of the field. The actual scoring of when the first lap is complete is when the entire field of cars on the racetrack completes its first lap. After the second lap, any deemed involved car goes to the rear on the restart. Any car making contact with another car, the wall or rolling over as a result of the caution lap being displayed will be deemed an involved car and treated as such.

On a regular point night, when there is a caution in the feature, all cars should go into single file order to help enable the lineup man get the field in order quicker. All lapped cars immediately drop to the back of the field. They will be lined up behind the lead lap cars in order of running position.

If the scorers deem that your car numbers are too hard to read at night due to paint schemes, colour combinations, they will inform you and you have two weeks to resolve the problem in order that they may be better able to score your car.
